Self-perception

In the Regional Youth Council of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern 22 active regional youth associations have merged into a working group. The background of these regional youth associations are youth organisations amounting to around 200.000 young people. Thus the Regional Youth Council is the largest and with its particular combination only interest community for children and youth in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.  

The logo of the Regional Youth Council emphasizes openness, multiplicity and movement. It consists of separate parts which have a distinct shape, together forming a distinct picture. This reflects the self-perception of the Regional Youth Council: It is open to new ideas and is constantly developing along with its work. The Regional Youth Council reacts flexibly to the challenges it is met with and its working areas and competences are easily recognized. Full-time and honorary work complement each other. The working climate between the different bodies and working areas of the Regional Youth Council is characterized by distinctness and transparency.

Objectives

The Regional Youth Council is trying to reach the following objectives through all of its activities:

  • To become a working group for the regional youth associations
  • To contribute to the improvement of living conditions for children and youth in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
  • To represent youth interests opposite policy, administration and the public
  • To shape, secure and develop the youth work in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
  • To collect the members’ resources and build a network between them

Values

The values that guide the work of the Regional Youth Council are: The members have equal rights when working together in the Regional Youth Council and can all participate in the decision making as well as in establishing professed intentions. The different bodies of the Regional Youth Council are responsible for their own decisions and represent them to the public.  

The Regional Youth Council is responsible for respecting its members’ different opinions and ways of working as well as achieving acceptance or openness for the other members.  

All of the member organisations are guided by the shared values of honorary work, self-organisation and voluntariness. Therefore they also count for the Regional Youth Council.

What makes the council truly lively is the variety of its many different members. The content ranges from clerical past trade unions and humanitarian interests to socialist and ecological orientations. The members are:

Structure

The Regional Youth Council is divided into domains of honorary and full-time work. The different bodies of the Regional Youth Council are found in the domain of honorary work – the general assembly, the main committee and the board.   The general assembly takes place once a year where the delegates vote on fundamental issues. The main committee meets five times a year whereby each association is represented by one delegate who is entitled to vote. This committee discusses the youth political directions and makes the equivalent decisions in between the annual general assemblies. The board attends to everyday business and works closely together with the office. Once a month, always on the first Tuesday, they meet in the rooms of the office. The Regional Youth Council has an office in Schwerin.

Competences and qualifications of the Regional Youth Council The Regional Youth Council offers competences and qualifications:  

  • in international youth exchange
  • in the wide field of youth information and the new media
  • in the youth educational work
  • of instructions in and distribution of participation forms
  • in the proper handling of political authorities
  • in the proper handling of legal questions in the domain of child- and youth work
  • in event management
  • in the hosting of events
  • in the organisation- and quality development
  • in the organisation and caretaking of honorary work

Services

The Regional Youth Council and its members will take on the following assignments:

  • extensive service and consulting within the working areas of the office – legal questions, finances, youth information, participation, international youth work, social management (organisation- and quality development), JuleiCa (the German Youth Card) and fundraising for the benefit of youth organisations
  • events which make it possible for the associations to meet each other as well as to network, for example a gathering of full-time employees
  • a study of the demand for continuation of education as well as the offering of the corresponding services
  • continuous public work
  • the hosting of processes in which common positions can be found
  • campaigns to further the honorary work
  • the publishing of working materials
  • the representation of political interests
  • the gathering and sorting of information as well as its distribution to the members
  • the publishing of a holiday calendar
  • international representation
  • the production of statistics
  • the development of a catalogue of lecturers
  • lecturing service
  • ”Youth in Parliament”
